In the great state of West Virginia, WVU Extension Service enables families and youths to improve their lives through educational programs and activities in the areas of nutrition and health, literacy, family life, international awareness, career and post-secondary opportunities, and life skills development. More than 45,800 youths and 8,000 members of the West Virginia Community Educational Outreach Service (WVCEOS) are involved each year in program efforts. Over 10,000 community volunteers contribute to the efforts.

The West Virginia Community Educational Outreach Service (WVCEOS) has a strong tradition of education, service, and community development, dating back to 1914 when the first club (Farm Women's Club in Ohio County) was established. The vision of the WVCEOS is to be leaders in strengthening individuals, families, and communities to become productive contributors to meet the needs of our changing and diverse society. The mission of the WVCEOS is to strengthen individuals and families through continuing education, leadership development and community involvement for the betterment of all.

The primary mission of the WVU Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Unit is to assist owners and users of West Virginia's natural resources to gain competitive social and economic benefits from these resources. The Unit, through research and experience-based information, will empower the stewards and users of West Virginia landscapes to manage the agriculture, forests, water, soil, wildlife, and other natural resources in a sustainable manner that will satisfy the needs of the current and future generations. This education/technology transfer effort, developed by a partnership of researchers, educators and citizens, will help resource users develop critical skill and problem-solving abilities necessary to make the correct natural resource decisions.
